The Domestic Face Of "Overseas Contingency Operations"

From The Political and Financial Markets Commentator

Take A Good Look At This Man

Remember back in March when the name change order came down from the top? No more Global War On Terror. It was now to be known as Overseas Contingency Operations. I suppose that GWOT had negative connotations for the Obama administration.

The President had the idea of putting lipstick on the pig that had been named right after 9/11 (the worst domestic attack on our Country), changing it to something a little more palatable for the American people. But, you know what, the pig is still a pig and the war on terror is still very much global! It is critically important for the everyday citizens to keep their guards up and stay ever so vigilant for anything going on that may not seem just right. Let me tell you how I know that.

A Domestic Face Of Terror

This is Najibullah Zazi, and allegedly he wants to kill Americans right here at home. Not overseas. Not in someone else's back yard. No right here in one of the hubs of President Obama's overseas contingency operations. He received weapons and explosives training at an Al Qaida training camp near Pakistan in 2008. He, along with his father were arrested, with more being sought.

On his computer nine pages of notes were found on how to build an explosive device and a detonator to trigger it. He was found with video of Grand Central Station (large commuter rail hub in New York City) and had researched the interiors of football stadiums and other large venues. Apparently he was the man who would make the call on when an attack would take place.

So what does it all mean to us?

Number one it means law enforcement did a great job monitoring, tracking and arresting Zazi before another tragedy took place.

Number two it means that Americans, who possess extremely short memories, need to wake up and understand that the War On Terror is not over, and may never be over. That those who wish to kill us have not changed their minds.

Number three is that this enemy understands number two only too well, and has the patience to wait 5 or 10 years to take the next shot (the first World Trade Center attack took place in 1993, eight years before 9/11).

Number four is that parts of our government need to understand these facts, and along with the ACLU stop trying to tie the hands of the very people who are tasked with protecting us.

Number five is that organizations such as the ACLU and the far left play right into the hands of our enemies. Those that want to kill us must sit back and laugh at the arguments that go on regarding interrogation and the rights of terrorist suspects held at Gitmo. These discussions don't go on in their governments or leaderships. It is this weakness that we convey that only serves to embolden them.

Number six is that these "negotiations" with Iran over its nuclear intentions are a charade, and that they will never stop trying to amass weapons of mass destruction to kill us, either themselves or through a proxy.

Number seven is a summary of the first 6. We as Americans need to wake up and see that our very existence is constantly threatened.

How many people around the country are not even aware of the arrest and the intent of those arrested?

Let your representatives in Washington know (particularly those represented by the Pelosi left) that the philosophy they are trying to invoke on the American people is hazardous to our health and well being, and they need to step up and start facing that fact.

This healthcare debate which is consuming all of the thought and time of Congress, is merely a smoke screen if the terrorists have their way. Step up and protect the country in the way that this great land needs to be.

Swine Flu: The Beast Is Back and Air Force One Buzzes The Statue Of Liberty

Swine Flu: The Beast Is Back and Air Force One Buzzes The Statue Of Liberty

But First, Air Force Photo-Op Stupidity

Who was the decision maker behind this staged event over downtown New York City on Monday, done with no warning to the populace of a city still traumatized by the events on 9/11/01? This is the brilliance of our government at work. Does President Obama give any thought to the ramifications of these or any other actions, or will they just blame it all on an underling somewhere down the line. Or maybe 9/11 wasn't that big a deal to them, making it okay to stage an event so eerily similar.

This all seems like a long way to go for the Christmas card picture to send to Hugo Chavez, the King of Saudi Arabia and all of his other new buddies.

Mild Cases In The United States,Australia, Brazil, Canada, Britain, New Zealand, Israel and Spain, Not So Mild In Mexico With A Social And Economic Impact That Is Yet To be Seen Or That Can Be Determined

On Monday travel warning were issued by the EU recommending that all non-essential travel to the United States and Mexico be avoided. The United States, already on alert regarding travel to Mexico due to drug violence, is now also issuing a recommendation to avoid travel there due to the outbreak of swine flu. This recommendation could soon turn into an official warning.

The chart above is from the World Health Organization, and details the various stages that a pandemic will go through. In a significant move, the warning level was raised from Phase 3 to Phase 4. Phase 4 indicates sustained human to human transmission, and a move to Phase 5 would indicate widespread human infection. The WHO made the decision to raise the level on Monday.

What Does This All Mean?

Not to minimize the potential human tragedy that the spread of this disease could have in a world whose economy is already extremely tenuous at best. Border closings, food and agricultural product embargo's, travel restrictions and any other side effects of this disease is exactly what is not needed at the present time.

To summarize the problem as it is known now (which is going to be extremely dynamic and certainly not static, so subject to change at any time):

Porky

"A unique strain of swine flu is the suspected killer of dozens of people in Mexico, where authorities closed schools, museums, libraries and theaters in the capital on Friday to try to contain an outbreak that has spurred concerns of a global flu epidemic.

The worrisome new virus — which combines genetic material from pigs, birds and humans in a way researchers have not seen before — also sickened at least eight people in Texas and California, though there have been no deaths in the U.S.

"We are very, very concerned," World Health Organization spokesman Thomas Abraham said. "We have what appears to be a novel virus and it has spread from human to human ... It's all hands on deck at the moment."

The outbreak caused alarm in Mexico, where more than 1,000 people have been sickened. Residents of the capital donned surgical masks and authorities ordered the most sweeping shutdown of public gathering places in a quarter century. President Felipe Calderon met with his Cabinet Friday to coordinate Mexico's response.

The WHO was convening an expert panel to consider whether to raise the pandemic alert level or issue travel advisories.

It might already be too late to contain the outbreak, a prominent U.S. pandemic flu expert said late Friday.

Given how quickly flu can spread around the globe, if these are the first signs of a pandemic, then there are probably cases incubating around the world already, said Dr. Michael Osterholm at the University of Minnesota."(Yahoo)

Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and wash your hands. This is the perfect time for a lesson in manners.

Chris Matthews Has It All Figured Out: So He Says

Chris Matthews And His Analysis Of The Bush Years

I can't honestly say that I ever watch Chris Matthews on his show or anywhere else, one because I disagree with the majority of things he says, and two because his voice is like fingers across a blackboard. Shallow reason I know, but what can I say. The clip above is his analysis of the Bush Presidency and Bush as a man in an interview with Keith Olbermann after the Bush farewell speech.

In this clip Matthews questions Bush's intellegence, leadership and integrity, as well as most every aspect of his foreign policy decision making. He paints Bush as an empty suit being led by the nose by the neo-cons he has chosen to surround himself with. There is no question, as Bush himself has admitted, that some mistakes were made in both foreign policy as well as domestically, but what leader does not make mistakes. Matthews, as the consumate Monday morning quarterback has the luxury to second guess. A leader does not have that same luxury.

The Status Quo Policy

The argument, however, that the original status quo in the Middle East Bush inherited when he entered office would be preferable to any kind of change is absurd. Yes, as Matthews states, change needs to start with the rank and file at street level and not with the leaders that we sit with at the table. But policy for peace or at least cease fire will not stick, until we can root out the radical leaders at the street level who have been manipulating the hearts and minds of the youth long beore Bush ever took office. And who will continue to do so.

George Bush did not create the hatred towards the west, as much as the left would like to say that he did. That hatred has existed for a long, long time. The problem now is that the tools of destruction they have at their disposal have gotten more sophisticated and more dangerous. A policy of leaving them to their own devices, a live and let live strategy is not feasible, if only for the fact that the radical side of the equation wants us dead. They wanted us dead during the Clinton years as well as during the Bush years, and unfortunately the same will hold true during the Obama years.

Chris Matthews ideas, although he does not actually offer any, would most likely be some type of policy of appeasement. A way of getting the lower level leaders who actually dictate the policy to agree to some kind of truce with both Israel and the west. If that were to happen, you know what you could do with the paper that it was signed on.

The world is a changed place, and this did not start on George Bush's watch if we remember the bombings of the emabassy's in Africa, the USS Cole and the first attack on the World Trade Center to name just a few.

The policy that had been chosen by a man who I am sure Matthews admires greatly, former President Clinton (whose wife will now be Secretary of State) was to basically do nothing in response to acts of terror. Lob in a few missiles and deal with his many personal domestic problems. As September 11, 2001 shows us, that policy was not a great one either.

Say what you will about Bush, he is a man of honor and a man of conviction who made mistakes as any leader will. But he led with his heart, not by the polls.
